Milne Berry Berger & Freedman
Child Support

Society requires that both parents contribute to the financial support of their children whether or not the children are living with them or with the other parent.

The level of child support can be negotiated between the parties with a view to achieving a financial agreement which best provides for the needs of their children.

In the event of you not being able to negotiate an agreement as to how much financial support is to be paid for your children, then the Child Support Agency has the power to calculate that amount of support to be paid by the non resident parent and under the relevant legislation has power to enforce it.

Aside from providing advice in this area, lawyers generally do not become involved in child support matters except, in the case of contesting decisions by the Child Support Agency.

To help you calculate what Child Support may be payable, go to the Child Support Agency www.csa.gov.au.
